Done anything new recently? Failed miserably? Succeed beyond your wildest dreams? Then let's hear about it!

This year I will be making my first ever attempt at a Christmas dinner. It will also be my first attempt at making a roast dinner. It could all go horribly wrong! My first try at casserole came out as soup  If I don't come back after Christmas, you'll know why!

Well, funny you should say that - as I did try creating my own internet forum recently, only it hardly ever worked!

This new place is great though - works like a dream! :D

Registered for Suare Eyes then couldn't log in because I'd missed the 't' out of Mitchell

After six attempts, I copied and pasted my user name from the connfirmation email. I noticed my error then

Come to think of it, I've done that before  :( First time with this username though

I've just temporarily clicked the "allow users to change their names" thingy in the control panel Mrs M, so if you like you should be able to change your username back to the usual spelling by altering it in your profile. (That's unless you want to keep it t-less of course! )

Well it all went very smoothly and no-one died! I call that a successful dinner!

The other day I used the fancy machine to pay cheques into my bank. It's surprisingly easy (though I did keep putting the cheques in upside down!) so I think I'll be doing that again

In the next however long it takes, I will be attempting to learn how to do those really loud whistles involving sticking fingers in your mouth. I've always wanted to be able to do that, for no particular reason!

Anyway, I have my instructions - http://www.natwilson.com/stuff/whistle.html - and I can currently get a weedy low hollow whistle about 3 attempts out of 10 but I shall keep practising and hopefully get there in the end. Preferrably with the minimum of slobber! :P

I've never been able to do that either...the instructions look rather complicated...

If you have to use a mirror, I'd better not start practising in the bath or it'll steam up

Have you perfected the whistle yet Sutti?

I've been having great fun this week making my own shelf units/bookcase thingy.

I have this built in cupboard in my bedroom which is only 13 inches deep, to the right of the full sized door is a 22 inch recess and to the left, 13 inches.

The cupboard had just one shelf running the full length which wasn't really much use so I made some sort of bookcase thingy to to fit in each reess to utlize the space and give me lots of shelves on both sides from floor to ceiling. Looks good even if I do say so myself.

It didn't cost much either because the wood I used was taken out of the fitted wardrobe/cupboard which is huge (floor to ceiling and full length of the main wall) and was full of shelves, but, had no clothes hanging space, so, I gutted half of it (floor to half way up) and put in rails for my clothes and shoe rack for my shoes.

Most satisfying making it, custom fitting it all to my needs and, finding I'm a dab hand with an electric saw, drill, screwdriver etc and didn't injure myself once either!

My back and arms ache a bit now though

Thanks for asking, Mrs M! I have not perfected it yet, but I have greatly improved! :afro: Most of the time I get a decent time and sometimes I even manage an ear-piercing whistle. Woohoo! Unfortunately I have trouble doing it when other people are around. I'm not good with an audience. At anything.

Fancy coming and doing some DIY at my place, DMM? I've got plenty of little jobs that need doing and it sounds like you're a dab hand!

I'm quite addicted to it. I was sawing and drilling and screwing again today.

I just can't stop!

On Thursday I met an internet chum for the first time, even though we've known each other for about 8 years. We got on very well and I think he'll still speak to me!

In just over half an hour I will be going to a French restaurant and speaking French with my French class. Wah!

I've written myself some crib notes on a scrap of paper just in case I go blank

It went very well, thanks! There wasn't too much French spoken during the meal, but the restaurant staff humoured us and spoke in French when we were ordering
One of us made the mistake of saying "Parlez vous francais?" to a waiter and he answered with a phrase and some vocabulary we hadn't learnt! We should have given him a script beforehand!

That sounds good! What were your photos of? Where can we see them?
