It went very well, thanks! There wasn't too much French spoken during the meal, but the restaurant staff humoured us and spoke in French when we were ordering
One of us made the mistake of saying "Parlez vous francais?" to a waiter and he answered with a phrase and some vocabulary we hadn't learnt! We should have given him a script beforehand!

yes, that's always the easiest way to have conversations, i find  so, were any snails or frog's legs eaten? :P

That sounds good! What were your photos of? Where can we see them?

they can be seen by anyone who has Google Earth, basically. well, one of them can so far. the photos aren't of anything astounding, just ones i've taken while out on walks. you can also see them here on google maps:

http://www.panoramio.com/map/?user=1193647#lt=54.039885&ln=-2.812034&z=2&k=2&a=1&tab=5

panoramio is the site you submit them through. i recommend it!

No snails or frogs legs, no! (Although I believe I did see one or both mentioned on the menu...)

Those are good photos. I never really got around to using google earth much, although it is a fantastic piece of kit!

Tonight, Hughesy and I are going curling for the first time. We will probably be terrible at it and make arses of ourselves. Should be fun!

I'm planning to relearn French again..I did French, Italian and Spanish at school but that was...ahem...a while ago now, and I've forgotten most of it.

For now though, I've just enrolled in evening classes in something else...introduction to aromatherapy...I've always been interested in "complementary therapies" but it was one of those things I've never got round to, along with a lot of other things  ...anyway, this is a start. It's only for 6 weeks, but I've already got the prospectus for part-time college courses for September so hopefully I can do more then :D

PS. how was the curling? Any accidents Sutti?

It was all very safe, thank you, so no need for a visit to the clumsiness thread! It was brilliant fun - I'd really recommend curling - even though I was no great shakes at it! Hughesy was pretty good and I found my talents lay in sweeping

All that vigorous sweeping was rather knackering too, was it not McSutts? I still have aches and pains in the arms and legs even now, five days after the event! Unfit and I know it

This week I did a very brave thing

I went on Rameses Revenge at Chessington!! On my own!! Even after it had been having technical difficulties!! Impressive huh?

I do like theme park rides, but I do usually need someone to keep me company while I scream a lot..but this time I was at a theme park with my Mum and kids, so it was all down to me on my own if I wanted to go on this one...and I did it...twice actually :D (only because it had been having technical problems so they let us stay on it for a second time to make up for it..lol)

It was good fun...has anyone else been on it? If you haven't seen it, here's a youtube video of what it does...the worst part is at about 44 seconds

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWViEz6Sv10

I also went on the Dragon's Fury and the Vampire with my eldest...they were good too :D

D'you know, I'm not sure that's something I'd fancy going on (twice) if I knew there had been technical difficulties! Or even if there hadn't.

You're a brave woman, Maria!

I'm so jealous! I'd love to go on that. I can't go on any exciting rides anymore because of my injuries after my accidents. :( I have to stay on the ground if I want to continue to be able to walk that is

No horse riding, motorbike riding, no roller coasters or similar rides, no parachuting and no bunjee jumping

I have to be satified with......wait for it.......grouting! :D Yes, exciting stuff. I did the final grouting after a friend tiled my bathroom. Great fun though.
I'm not David Mitchell's Mom. I'd just like to adopt him. Nooo not David Mitchell the comedian. Little David Mitchell from Grange Hill Series Three!

So, does this mean we can expect you to announce that you'll be hiring yourself out as a professional grouter sometime in the not too distant future, Mrs M?

 Me neither! It did look like good fun though, especially the bit where everybody presumably got soaking wet at the end!

I think the most similar ride to Rameses Revenge I ever went on was the old Mary Rose ship thing at Margate. That used to swing from side to side in a pendulum stylee, getting higher and higher on each new swing until eventually it flipped over a full 360 degrees.

I dread to think how much loose change/wallets/iPods etc etc must end up falling out of people's pockets on to the ground below while they're on these rides anyway!

i rescued a centipede from the bath recently, instead of following my first cowardly instinct to wash it down the plughole! according to wikipedia, centipedes are one of the earliest terrestrial animals with a fossil record dating back 420 million years, they are predatory with poison claws (to humans their bite can be like a wasp sting) and each segment of the body has a pair of legs.

I started my aromatherapy classes this week..I really enjoyed it :D

We didn't even do anything much about aromatherapy yet but I had fun just chatting and stuff  (I need to get out more  )

It did remind me about all the complementary therapies I used to be interested in before though..I think I could get quite back into it all now :D

Has anyone heard of or been to "Go Ape"? There's a few of them around the country.

It's a kind of adventure assault course thing in a forest...rope bridges, zip slides etc.
A few of us from work are going in a couple of weeks...should be good fun, so long as I don't fall out of a tree or anything...
