The daily football quiz

It's good, but it's not right.

Postby Hughesy on Fri Feb 08, 2008 6:59 pm

Chris has it. It was Brazilian defender Alex, in his PSV Eindhoven days.

Next question:

For how long was Les Reed in charge of Charlton Athletic during 2006-07?

(I'll accept any answer within 5 days of the number I'm looking for)

Oh blimey, I'd forgotten this thread existed! Hang on...

*scrambles around for notes*

Nope, it was 41 days. (I thought I'd better give the correct answer here as this question very nearly killed the thread!)

Next Q:

Which English footballer played for Inter Milan for two seasons between 1995 and 1997?

Correct! Well deduced

Next one:

Who are the only two British footballers to have scored six hat-tricks in one season?

(clue: one of them is also a doctor and the other probably needed to see a doctor after his well-documented alcoholic problems!)

Ah, can't believe I missed this one for so long, it was tailor made for me to answer!

One is Dr Kenny Deuchar, Jeff Stelling's favorite and a former Northampton Town loan man currently plying his trade (footballing) for Salt Lake city in the US league. The other is the late great George Best who bagged six against Northampton!

Oops, sorry guv! I somehow managed to miss your original reply.

Anyway, you're half right! Kenny Deuchar was one, but you're barking up the wrong alcoholic tree with George Best! (re-read the original question and you'll see what I mean  )

In that case, the other one has to be the man who would no doubt reckon that Deuchar only got all those goals cos he played up there in chilly jocko land where the keepers are rubbish. The one who our own Toaster was named after, the man who my dad once saw score four in a game for Chelsea as teenager and get a standing ovation from the entire crowd (even the away fans), Jimmy "its a funny old game saint" Greaves.

After that build up I better not be wrong!

 Och, you kill me Greavsie! (don't worry, you're bang on the money!)

Another question to follow just as soon as I can remember where I left the calendar thingy that contains all the Qs!

Talksport's Hawksbee and Jacobs are playing extracts from Saint and Greavsie the album this week. Today's track was called "Goalkeeper" and was synthasizer music of someone singing "goal, goal, goalkeeper" with samples of Jimmy and Ian talking about football on their show. A must for all football fans!

It just shows how popular S & G were back in the day, that their merchandising empire stretched to an actual album! Impressive!

OK, next question:

Which England international was arrested and given an £80 fine after he and another man were caught stealing a B&Q bathroom suite last year?

For some reason I think it was Rio Ferdinand. They'll all be getting new suite's and visiting B&Q this summer too

An understandable guess, but an incorrect one in this instance! The tea-leaf in question is also an ex-West Ham player though.

Doesn't narrow it down too far, but I think I know the answer now. And this emoticon has jogged my memory: :afro:

Glen Johnson?
"I don't like The Bill, honest."

Remember to put a prediction in RED!!!
