SUMMER FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS LEAGUE 2008

It's good, but it's not right.

SUMMER FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS LEAGUE 2008

Postby ChrisR on Mon May 19, 2008 8:47 pm

Welcome All!

Well they say that football has a 365 day season now and it seems the sport of Square Eyes Football Predictions is no different - now that the rigours of the regular season are all over let me welcome you all to the (doo doo doo!!) Square Eyes Summer Football Predictions League 2008.

The bulk of the fixtures we will come from Euro 2008 which I am sure we are all interested in however there is football being played all over the world this summer and I am keen to use a good cross-section of fixtures to give us a bit of variety from the usual British teams, Euro 2008, the Intertoto Cup, the Eircom League, the Russian Premier League, the Toulon U21 championships, Major League Soccer - no game is out of bounds (within reason of course - Hughesy and his mates playing five-a-side down the park will sadly not be a match we can include this year!). Any input from you guys will be very welcome.

At various intervals we could have a couple of wildcard rounds, such as guess the Euro 2008 winners or golden boot winners (for megapoints of course).

The league will begin this weekend with a farewell nod to the British season (Cup Final and playoffs etc) and will run to the last weekend before the start of the 2008-09 Barclays Premiership season.

I declare this Predictions league open!

This weekends fixtures (and details of the scoring system) to follow soon.

OK gang, here are the Round 1 Fixtures

Bristol City v Hull (Championship Playoff)
Queen of the South v Rangers (Scottish Cup Final)
Doncaster v Leeds (League One Playoff)
Viking FK Stavanger v SK Brann Bergen (Norwegian Tippeligaen)
Stockport v Rochdale (League Two Playoff)
Galway Utd v Cobh Ramblers (Eircom League)

Usual Predictions rules apply:

1 point for the correct outcome (ie correctly choosing win for A/draw/win for B etc)
3 points for the correct score
Choose one of the games, mark it in red text and any points gained on that match will be doubled.

As mentioned above at some stage in the next few weeks there will be a wildcard round where you can give your EURO 2008 tournament predictions and if you are correct you can earn MEGAPOINTS.

Happy Predictions everyone!

Good luck running the league through the summer chris, I was in the prediction league running business once, toughest game in the world that is!

Bristol City 1 Hull 2 (Championship Playoff)
Queen of the South 1 Rangers 3 (Scottish Cup Final)
Doncaster 1 Leeds 3 (League One Playoff)
Viking FK Stavanger 2 SK Brann Bergen 2 (Norwegian Tippeligaen)
Stockport 3 Rochdale 2 (League Two Playoff)
Galway Utd 4 Cobh Ramblers 5 (Eircom League)

And I think that tonight Chelsea will beat man united, I just think they are too tough mentally for man u to cope with them (just for fun no megapoints expected for this one.

Bristol City 1 Hull 2

Bristol City 1-0 Hull
Queen of the South 0-2 Rangers
Doncaster 1-2 Leeds
Viking FK Stavanger 1-0 SK Brann Bergen
Stockport 1-0 Rochdale
Galway Utd 2-0 Cobh Ramblers

What I didn't say when setting out the rules, for the 3 Playoff and 1 Cup games, I intend that the result reflects the 90 minute score or the 120 minute score if the game went to extra time. The game going to penalties counts as a draw - everyone OK with that?

Hi Chris,
I did'nt get round to attendsing to the new predictions until just now and was unsure if I was too late, so i'll leave out and not predict the Bristol City v Hull City and the Queen of the South v Rangers one + any other Saturday fixtures and just do the ones I (hope i'm in time for).

I hope it is ok to do the predictions like this please?

Doncaster 2 Leeds 4

Viking FK Stavanger 0 FK Brann Bergen 1

Stockport 0 Rochdale 1

Galway Utd 3 Cobb Ramblers 3

Hi Franco - that's fine.

The Norwegian game and the Irish League match are actually kicking off tonight (8pm BST) & tommorow night (7.45pm BST) respectively - you can still submit the scores now.

From next week I'll post the actual kickoff times as well - with all these foreign matches its not a straight Sat/Sun 3pm/4pm scenario.

ROUND 1 RESULTS

Bristol City 0-1 Hull
Queen of the South 2-3 Rangers
Doncaster 1-0 Leeds
Viking FK Stavanger 1-2 SK Brann Bergen
Stockport 3-2 Rochdale
Galway Utd 0-1 Cobh Ramblers

Current standings:

1. Maria 7pts
2. J & Z 6pts
2. Sutti's big hair 6pts (Incredibly including a correct score prediction of 3-2 to Stockport- well predicted!)
2. The Head 6pts
2. Savage Sounds 6pts (3-2 Stockport again - astounding!)
7. Hughesy 5pts
8. StevieD 4pts
9. ChrisR 3pts
10. Franco 1pt
11. Toaster 0pts

Working out the scores was a lot harder than I thought but I checked and double-checked and I think they are right. Unfortunately I don't have the benefit of a Score-a-Tron to help me calculate the standings - if you see any mistakes please advise and I will fix them.

Well done all! Still early days, its a marathon not a sprint etc. Anyone got any good cliches to add?
