Predictions League 2008/09 Edition

It's good, but it's not right.

Hughesy,

I'm running a bit late and don't have time for the predictions right now, is it ok if I do a double predictions next week where I predict this weeks games and next weeks?

Yours hopingly

Sav,

Course it's OK! I should warn you, however, that you'll automatically incur a 50-point penalty should you take this course. You'll also be forced to buy a season ticket at Bolton Wanderers next season and a Joe Pasquale "Live & Squeaky" DVD boxset which you must watch after you arrive home from every game at the Reebok. You must also embark on an intensive course of self-inflicted Chinese burns while parading down the high street fourteen times a week wearing an "I Love Cristiano Ronaldo" t-shirt and pink flip-flops singing the hits of Westlife at the top of your lungs.

Hope this helps!

Bolton 1 Sunderland 0
Everton 1 Spurs 1
Hull 0 Stoke 0
West Ham 1 Liverpool 1
Millwall 0 Leeds 1
Rangers 1 Celtic 0
Arsenal 1 Chelsea 1
Man Utd 1 Man City 0

I dunno, I think there is a Platiniesque conspiracy at play here Hughesy. I'm sure your hands are tied but I bet if an Italian or Spanish predictorino had made such a request then it would have been granted! Somebody in the corridors of power feels that there have been too many English winners of the prediction league in recent years hence the decision!

Bolton 1 Sunderland 0 (a win for my new team)
Everton 1 Spurs 0
Hull 0 Stoke 1
West Ham 0 Liverpool 2
Millwall 2 Leeds 2 (if only both teams could lose, lets hope one of them does in the play off final)
Rangers 1 Celtic 2 (Oh typical, I see once again forces have conspired against the English football set up and no English teams are in with a chance of winning the SPL!)
Arsenal 1 Chelsea 2
Man Utd 2 Man City 1I think it is Man U's year again. There will be an English winner of the Premier league this year whether Platini or Blatter like it or not!

What a week in the predictions league! Possibly the biggest variation of scoring we've ever seen in the group, with scores ranging from 0 to 11 points. Anyway, fantastic stuff - and well done Toaster and stevied for both correctly picking Liverpool's 3-0 victory at West Ham as your bonus game!

The results:

Bolton 0 Sunderland 0
Everton 0 Spurs 0
Hull 1 Stoke 2
West Ham 0 Liverpool 3
Millwall 1 Leeds 0
Rangers 1 Celtic 0
Arsenal 1 Chelsea 4
Man Utd 2 Man City 0

The table:

1 Hughesy (5) 187
2 The Head (0) 167
3 Toaster (11) 158
4 Franco (0) 149
5 So Old I'm In Monochrome (5) 142
6 Savage Sounds (4) 138
7 Maria (3) 132
8 Stevied (8 ) 127
9 Sutti (-) 124

And it's all (well, mostly) about the Premier League relegation battle for our next batch of fixtures:

Bolton v Hull
Middlesbrough v Aston Villa
Newcastle v Fulham
West Brom v Liverpool
Cambridge United v Torquay
(Blue Square play-off final - score at the end of extra time counts in the event of penalties)
Hibernian v Celtic
Portsmouth v Sunderland

That's it - good luck!

 Apparently Five Live co-commentator and professional bumpkin Ian Holloway got lost trying to find the MK Dons ground tonight and turned up late for the game. It probably doesn't take much to confuse him, mind.

bolton 1 hull 1
middlesbrough 2 aston villa 1
newcastle 0 fulham 0
west brom 0 liverpool 3
cambridge 1 torquay 2 (Cambridge to miss out at Wembley again)
hibs 1 celtic 1
portsmouth 1 sunderland 0 (although I appreciate I might be being wildly optimistic here, expecting these two entertainment-averse teams to conjure up a goal between them in a mere 90 minutes of football!)

I'm not shocked he got lost. The ground isn't even in Milton Keynes proper its out in the middle of nowhere on a big bit of wasteland next to an Asda near Bletchley!

You actually still have time to predict the last four games on the list... or at least you did when you posted that message! :P

Hibs v Celtic is underway now, West Brom kick off at 4pm (I think), as do Cambridge, while Portsmouth's game isn't until Monday evening (just in case you check back here in time, like!).
