The first Western I've ever liked. I won't tell you my favourite bits if you're only half way through but, oh, did it make me laugh.

It's one of only a couple of westerns I like as well! Have seen it loads of times, so spoil away, Mrs M!

I read that recently. I wasn't sure how well it would translate into a film, but I hope to give it a go sometime.

Two that come to mind straight away (I haven't watched it for a few years , must dig it out) is where Maverick reveals he's fast on the draw but can't hit "shit" and when Jodie stumbles, grabs Mavericks jacket, sets his gun off and Maverick turns round covering his privates.

Did you know, one of the cheating gamblers thrown off the Steamer is Mel's brother Donal  Not a lot of people know that. Donal is also in Braveheart, one of the pre-battle scenes, shouting "You bastards" too.
I'm not David Mitchell's Mom. I'd just like to adopt him. Nooo not David Mitchell the comedian. Little David Mitchell from Grange Hill Series Three!

It's funny that you two both don't really like westerns, bearing in mind that they're invariably great! :P I don't think I've ever seen a film in this genre that I didn't enjoy (and I've seen a lot of films in this genre!).

BTW - if you enjoyed Maverick, why not try: Carry On Cowboy

The last film I saw wasn't a western (surprisingly), but instead was a drama called Cashback about a non-sleeping bloke who gets a job on the nightshift in Sainsbury's. It had its moments but was generally a bit meh, and registers a lacklustre five on the Hughesy-o-meter.

I watched The Ringer on DVD the other night. A bit of a silly storyline, but the acting is good. I think it's more the plot that's silly as the story is actually very good, with the usual happy American ending.

I only watched it because Katherine Heigl is the co-star, and I have another of her films (Bug Busters) to watch next. The Ringer also stars Johnny Knoxville (from Jackass).

7/10.
"I don't like The Bill, honest."

Remember to put a prediction in RED!!!

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. Brooding Southern U.S. melodrama from the late 1950s, anyone? Don't mind if I do!
