I watched his DVD and gave up after 20 minutes because all his material was exactly the same as the stuff he's said on Mock the Week! He was on Live at the Apollo on Saturday night and again it was all the same stuff.

Not only is his material exactly the same (ala Peter Kay) but he laughs at his own jokes. It's like he's saying: "Ha ha ha I'm so funny laugh and give me money you c*nts!"

P*ss off back to Scotland and only come back for Mock the Week where Russell Howard is funnier than you!

I think I agree with you on most of that.

I do find Frankie Boyle and a few other comedians irritating especially on progs like Mock The Week. Mostly because they can only be "funny" when they are insulting people, others on the show, celebrities, or polititians. I know sometimes there will be a story in the news about someone just begging to have a gag made about it, but, I feel they go too far.

I can't stand the David Mitchell like jumping in with a stupid jube like a train without a break while another comedian is doing their turn in progs like 8/10 cats either.

Jimmy Carr is a turn off too. He reminds me of one of those people who think they are funny because they can commit to memory every joke they have every heard and then feel it nessessary to spout them out one after the other like a bad case of Norovirus.

It's a pity the prog makers don't give some other comedians a turn instead of having the same usual suspects. Better still, just have a stand up show with 15 minute turns. After all. a lot of the "high profile" comedians seem to only have about 15 mins material :?

It's interesting that, when he was a guest on Have I Got News For You a while back, Frankie Boyle was pretty quiet and made precious little impact among the comedy heavyweights populating that show. In sporting parlance, he was outclassed I suppose. Actually about the only memorable contribution he made to that show was to have conspicuously sweaty armpits on view throughout!

I actually find him and Jimmy Carr to be pretty talented comedians for the most part, but I agree that both are prone to overstepping the mark with some truly tasteless stuff where they're clearly just going for shock value alone. This isn't always a bad thing as you need to push back the boundaries and flout convention from time to time in comedy - but the trouble is that being sick and outrageous just for the sake of it can get very tiresome very quickly. Also, a lot of what passes for satire on shows like Mock The Week is just cliched old bollocks. For example: old people smelling of wee and John Prescott being a fat porker. Time after time the panellists rely on these stereotypes and time after time the audience lap it up like it's the funniest thing they've ever heard! Gah!

So yeah, I completely agree that MTW in particular really needs to sharpen up its act, and introduce some new blood. A few more female panellists might lower the testosterone levels for a start. It's too much of a boys' club and far too alpha maley competitive at the moment!

Yep Hughsey, they need a bit of a mix in the line-up. Mind you I find the females don't seem to get much of a word in when on MTW.

I have to admit one of the funniest jokes I've heard in ages was a Jimmy Carr. I've told it to a number of people
I'm not David Mitchell's Mom. I'd just like to adopt him. Nooo not David Mitchell the comedian. Little David Mitchell from Grange Hill Series Three!

It makes me laugh when radio presenters put on a really grave, reverential tone (like they're all concerned) for a few seconds when talking about recently deceased celebrity persons, yet about ten seconds later when they've moved on to another story their voice suddenly returns to normal, like they've put the whole tragic episode behind them! Why it's almost as if they couldn't really give a stuff at all! Radio 2's Jeremy Vine does this probably better than anyone, although I've just heard Gabby Logan do a pretty convincing job of it on Five Live too. (I know they couldn't exactly sound jovial about announcing someone's demise, but it's just how over the top they go and how quickly they revert to their normal tone of voice again that makes me laugh!)

The worst example of this came in 1997 with the death of Lady Di when all news presenters on all broadcast media had to adopt this depressed tone of voice constantly for about ten days afterwards!
