We Can Be Heroes

Postby Hughesy on Sun Jan 25, 2009 12:41 pm

I found the complete series of this on DVD in a charity shop for £3 the other day - it was even still sealed. And what a fantastic series this is. It was written by and starred Chris Lilley and was basically the precursor to Summer Heights High. As in SHH Lilley plays all the main characters in We Can Be Heroes - which is once again a spoof documentary, this time trying to find the Australian of the year from a list of candidates. I'm not making this sound at all funny but trust me, it is! The DVD is cheapest on Amazon and HMV at the mo anyway (£8.99) and I'd recommend it as just the tonic to brighten up these dull winter nights!

Glad you could find it, Hughesy, it is pretty good - found it downloadable some time ago. The last part is very clever, must have been exhausting work to make.

Yeah, it was a great finale. Surprisingly poignant, too (at least in parts), and very well acted by Mr Lilley. My goodness, though, that Ja'mie's a monster! In both this and SHH I've been longing for someone to slap her stupid face!

BTW, is it just me or does that "hero policeman" looking for a media career smack loudly of Alan Partridge at times (most of the time actually!)?
