Queen

Can you hear it pumping on your stereo?

Queen

Queen - Arguably the best band in the world since The Beatles, and they should also have a thread dedicated to them.

Queen always reminds me of a funny story from when I was at school (around '96 and '98). I was in Germany on a school trip in 1996 (we had to suffer watching the Germans win Euro 96) and I was listening to the musical stylings of Queen. Everyone on the bus thought I was sad liking "old music".

Fast forward to 1998 and another trip to Germany. Who were the group being played on the bus because it was "great music" Billie Piper  No it was Queen and everyone was singing all the words and they even did a karaoke :afro:

What happened during the years in between to make Queen popular?

In the words of Mavis Wilton and Les Dennis keeping his career alive for ten years on the back of his impression:

"I don't really know".

Maybe I was a trend setter? I know I had the haircut "curtains" before anyone else, and was the first to dye my hair blonde (out of the boys at least) too.
"I don't like The Bill, honest."

Remember to put a prediction in RED!!!

I listened to Queen a fair amount when I was growing up cos my Dad was a fan.
He got a new Queen video around the time Freddie Mercury died I think...I may even have bought him it for Christmas or something...I can't remember when it came out...but anyway, I remember watching that video a fair bit. It had all their best 80s stuff right up to 91.
I would have liked to have seen Queen play live when Freddie was still around.
Sadly my Dad's not with us anymore either, so songs like "The show must go on" and "Who wants to live forever" tend to get me a bit emotional

When I was a teenager I used to have guitar lessons, one week I turned up at the guitar teacher's house to be asked "do you know your my best friend?".

I was momentarily stunned, I only turned up for half and hour each week and hardly knew the bloke!

Queen and Pink Floyd were the first proper music I liked after leaving pop music behind as a teen. I can remember the general reaction to the 4th album because the music had gone off at such a tangent from earlier works, and really that's the secret of their success, something for everybody, and those amazing vocals - the power of Freddy's voice, so unique. We're lucky though that so much music was recorded, and it's all good - no duds in there.
