Your favourite Madonna song

Can you hear it pumping on your stereo?

Your favourite Madonna song

Postby Hughesy on Fri May 16, 2008 2:30 pm

I bought Madonna's True Blue album in a charity shop the other day and, listening to it again, I'm reminded just how great some of her singles were when she was right at the top of her game. Like Live To Tell for instance, which is not only making me feel all nostalgic and wistful hearing it again, but which also has aged incredible well (unlike her relationship with then-hubby Sean Penn, who she gushes over embarrassingly in the sleeve notes: This album is dedicated to my husband, the coolest guy in the universe. Hah! There's a lesson in there I think.)

Anyway, yes, Live To Tell has to be my favourite Madonna song. What's yours?*

*anyone who nominates a drink, alcoholic or otherwise, here will be forced to sit on the naughty step for at least an hour, possibly two!

Was it Live to Tell that had the Jimmy Cagney sample on?
I still have the Like A Virgin album on vinyl somewhere.
I like the early stuff. Lucky Star is my favourite song

My favourite is Wheels on the Bus. I bought the tape of this classic song and sent my wife mad with it in the car (we have caught up now with a CD player).

No, I think that would have been White Heat or possibly Jimmy Jimmy. Here's the vid for Live To Tell:

I love Borderline too BTW.

I was listening to my Immaculate Collection Madonna CD last week and had a similar idea to start a thread. I didn't though.

My favorite is Lucky Star too but I also like very much Open your Heart, Into the Groove, Like a Prayer and Justify My Love.

I'm not keen on many of the more up to date Madanna songs but did like Beautiful Stranger.
I'm not David Mitchell's Mom. I'd just like to adopt him. Nooo not David Mitchell the comedian. Little David Mitchell from Grange Hill Series Three!

I used to have "Like a Virgin" and "True Blue" on tape...probably still have somewhere!
I have a very strong memory of being in France on a family holiday and listening to True Blue constantly on my personal stereo (can't say Walkman cos I was never privileged enough to own a proper Walkman  ). That was also the holiday where my favourite shoes fell apart, although that's completely unrelated to this discussion...

Live to Tell would have to be my favourite Madonna song. I also liked Open your Heart off that album.

The only other Madonna album I had after that was Ray of Light...I love Power of Goodbye and Frozen.

I'm therefore allowing myself 2 votes :P (I'm not bothered about the 00s)
80's - Live to Tell
90's - Power of Goodbye

As we've already had the video for Live to Tell..here's the one for Power of Goodbye...I love the lyrics to this one, and I think this was one of Madonna's better looks too.

I've got too many favourite Madonna songs, though i've got to admit like with Duran Duran i'm more of a fan of Madge's modern music!

Anyhow the ones I really like and can't seperate them into favourite's as there are so manyand Madonna is one of my favourite singers - they are

*American Pie
*American Life
*Ray of Light
*Like a Virgin
*(The one with the Abba sample in it), forgot the name - lol!
*Dont Cry For Me Argentina
*Frozen
*Love Don't Live Here Anymore
*Music (a bit poor Imho but still quite good)

Am sure there are more I like but can't recall off hand - will add if I recall!

Her 80s stuff was great, true blue, like a virgin, like a prayer, border line, all good fun. Everything from 91 onwards was horrid. When she tried to be all sexy and tried to be all hip it was pukeworthy. Basically the problem with her since then is she tries way too hard to be cool and hip and takes herself way to seriously.
