Monkey Life

Postby Hughesy on Mon May 12, 2008 11:27 pm

A second series of the bastard offspring of Monkey Business started on Five tonight, just in case you missed the relentless publicity heralding its arrival in the newspapers, radio, TV and cinema over the past few months. It'll be on at 6.30 every weeknight for the next three weeks or so anyway, probably.

Typically, though, I managed to miss the first episode tonight thanks to being a forgetful numpty, so if anyone could fill me in on what happened I'd be grateful. You can even lie and tell me they've brought back Chris Serle in place of that monotonous Lord of the Rings goblin voiceover if you like! It'd make me feel better, even if only for an hour or two

Doh! I've also missed the first episode! And the second...
I do love those monkeys and apes, though.

I wish Chris Serle would be reinstated - Andy Serkis sends me right to sleep :sus:

ralf little is the new narrator. the first programme featured bryan being introduced to seamus in the nursery and the usual ice lolly shenanigans. there's also been jeremy collecting lingga the baby orangutan in paris and alison saying goodbye to julio the woolly monkey as he left her care to live with his own species.

anyone who is in the vicinity of dorset and hasn't visited monkey world yet - what the heck are you playing at?! it's brilliant so get yourself there immediately!

Is there anything more entertaining than watching Jeremy get duffed up by primate toddlers? First Linnga, now Bryan! Poor old Jeremy! And how sweet is his relationship with Coco the stump-tailed macaque? Bless

I'm pleased about Ralf Little's appointment as narrator (even if he was in the rubbish Two Pints of Lager) - he's not quite Chris Serle, but he's a massive improvement on the lugubrious Serkis. One thing does still rankle with me about this new series though: those "coming up later" clips. They're confusing, they appear ridiculously frequently and a lot of the time you end up seeing the same footage twice in the space of a few minutes. Not really good enough in a show that's only 22 minutes long to begin with

I love this prog. :D

Jeremy must love his job. Seeing him worn out and battered by Brian was so funny and watching him trying to get the little orangutan to climb the net today. There is so much Arwwww factor in this programme.

It must be a wonderful job, even considering the sad incidents. Arn't baby Wooley Monkeys gorgeous!

Who's does the narration doesn't bather me as long as the programme keeps coming back. I want MORE.

I'm such a sap.

Yesterday I was sobbing at the thought of the Capuchin monkey's that might be left in Chile to a sad fate. Today, sobbing again. Poor Aris  and the Capuchins all rescued.

I do love those Capuchin monkeys. They do look a bit too human though, but, I love their faces.

Should I tune in tomorrow? I think the news about Aris could be bad. But, little Woley Monkey gets a name tomorrow. :D I'll have the box of tissues ready.

There's an especially unconvincing scene in the latest Indiana Jones film where a load of capuchins swing through the jungle canopy before all descending on a moving car and convenienty attacking a load of baddies. Actually, now I think of it there looked to be around about 86 capuchins in that scene! A mere coincidence? I think not!

Yes, poor lttle Aris eh? I'm afraid I couldn't wait until tonight to find out what happened to him so I Googled it beforehand and discovered the bad news that way. Poor little chap.

Poor Aris. He looked so sweet right up until the end and to see the old film of him when he was a baby

I'm so pleased they showed the little wooley monkey and finally gave him his name, Paolo. His little face when he was chewing on the grapes made me laugh.

I like wildlife programmes but I hate the cruel real world of animals in the wild, I'm including those in places like monkey world in there too. I'm talking the violent chimp alpha male take over brewing. Gulp :? *the sound of nails being nibbled just thinking about it*

Yeah, it's a bit like the violent arena of the women's prison that was Wentworth Detention Centre really! When Hananya and his crew did for poor Rodney a few years ago that was really shocking. But as you say, it's a cruel world for yer typical wild animal

I'm quite excited by the new series of Zoo Days that's coming up as a replacement for Monkey Life on Five tonight, as this series is coming from my local zoo, Colchester. It has a fantastic variety of animals and is in a great setting, so it'll be fun to see how it looks on the telly rather than from on the ground, as it were!

I've missed it because I've not been watching Home and Away. Hope H & A has an omnibus.

Yes, you've never quite got over that, have you?

It was very sad about poor little Aris. Completely took everyone by surprise, I think, and that makes it more upsetting. He was such a sweet little chap! :(

I like the look of Zoo Days as well but I've not seen an episode yet. Maybe tonight will be the night!

There is on omnibus edition of Zoo Life and Home and Away (I've missed it this week), Saturday morning on Fiver one of my friends pointed out today. Yes, we had one of our megga 4 hour plus phone calls today while I was cleaning my kitchen. It was raining and Spring cleaning, although it's now Summer, really cheers me up. I know, I'm weird.

Well if you can squeeze it in between bouts of four-hour phone calls, I'd highly recommend the Zoo Days omnibus! Apart from Konnie Huq's irritating habit of using the phrase "Here at Colchester Zoo" every ten seconds (yes we know you're at Colchester Zoo, you've told us 700 times already!), it's been excellent. Highlights this week have included:

Zoo vet John Lewis getting whacked by the trunk of a bad-tempered elephant.

A pair of tigers ripping open boxes of meat wrapped in Christmas paper. Christmas presents are good enrichment for the poor beasts apparently!

A baby aardvark and a cat bonding in a zookeeper's flat.

Konnie Huq being stampeded by a herd of angry wildebeest midway through her latest pointless link: "Here at Colchester Zoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargghhhhhhhhhhh!!"

 My friend told me I'd just lurve the baby aardvark. I'm going to tape it all tomorrow. The previous series is also repeated the same day (that being tomorrow too on Fiver Might tape that too.

The old folks have been on holiday this week so I've been taping all me Mam's fav programmes (there's quite a lot .Phewww) and I must say I'm so glad this football thing has been on so a couple of the programmmes haven't been screened.
