Doctor in the House.

Does anyone else remember Doctor in the House?

I was watching Casualty earlier (yes, I do love anything set in a hospital) and saw a face I hadn't seen for a long time, Geoffrey Davies who played Dick Stuart-Clark in Doctor In the House along with George Layton, Robin Nedwell and the late Barry Evans.

I can't remember how old I was when I saw it but I did have a bit of a crush on Robin and Barry and couldn't understand why Dick Stuart-Clark seemed to get all the girls.

It's good to see some of those old Brit sit com stars are still going strong though.

I'm afraid this is one comedy that has passed me by (a bit like this thread - it says here that it's been up since the 1st March, but I only discovered it tonight!). Was this series based on those old "Doctor" films with Dirk Bogarde and James Robertson-Justice?

Yes it was loosely based on that film series. This was an ITV comedy (London Weekend I think) with various spinoffs which followed trainee doctors through to life as doctors in various scenarios. What's notable is that it was written by surprisingly high profile people, such as Grahaem G_a_r_d_e_n and John Cleese and even had Arthur lowe in it for a while. One of the stories is Fawlty-Towers-esque.

I've a dodgy copy, but I understand the things are starting to be formally released to dvd.

I didn't know that! My main recollection was of Prof Loftus (don't know the name of the actor but I remember his face  ) said to Duncan Waring (Robin Nedwell) on one occation "Yes, your very waring, Waring" and I thought that was hilarious!

Oh good! I wouldn't mind seeing it again. I know I used to laugh from start to finish, although I can't remember much of the storyline apart from Duncan Waring always seemed to have Prof Loftus after him for something Stuart-Clark had done.

I think I used to watch it on a Sunday afternoon. I don't know if that was the original screening or if it was a repeat run.

I've been YouTubing again and looked up Doctor in the House I found something I'd missed on TV! Very interesting I found it too. Since my original post I looked up to see what the cast have been up to and discovered Robin Nedwell has died. So sad. :(

I tried to take out the params but was left with rather a lot of the of the address on show instead. Somes ya win :?
